NATURE
Indonesia
is full of volcanoes, jungles, and a lot of cultures.
There are 128 active volcanoes. The reason for this huge
number of active volcanoes is that the country is
situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire. This ring
surrounds the Pacific Ocean with zones where earthquakes
and volcano eruptions are common events. Indonesia has
the biggest diversity of nature around the world as
well. This is caused by its geographical location, which
is close to the Equator and as well, close to two
continents - Asia and Australia. Proximity
to Asia, Australia, and New Guinea, causes division in
species. The territory of Indonesia can be divided into
3 bio-geographical regions. They are Sundaland, Wallacea
and the Island of New Guinea. Sundanland is a region in
the western part of Indonesia and species are the same
as Asia. Wallacea is east of Sundaland and the flora and
fauna are endemic (unique to this region). Island of New
Guinea is in the easternmost part of Indonesia and the
flora, and fauna are close to the Australian one’s. A joint map of all of Indonesia's bio-geographical regions |
